Children at West School have an opportunity to participate in our school chorus. All third and fourth graders are invited to work together throughout the year to perform many diverse musical selections. Sessions meet at 8:00AM, twice a week, in the Music room. Students perform concerts for the school and for the community. The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club.
The Computer Lab is open for students from 8:00AM to 8:35AM, Monday Wednesday, and Friday. Students may use the lab facilities to work on homework, complete technology projects and practice keyboarding skills. An assistant is available in the lab to assist students with their projects.
Extra, Extra, Read All About It! Students meet in the LLC on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00AM to 8:35AM and have an opportunity to create 4 school newspapers during the year. Find out all there is to know about West School by reading the articles, poems, creative stories, comics, and lots more in each edition of KidsView Magazine. Lunch/Recess Council operates as a student driven group. The goal is to benefit the lunch and recess periods. In addition to presenting ideas, comments, and concerns from students in their classroom, the lunchroom council representatives report back to classmates about recommendations made, identify projects for the lunchroom, and share information.The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club.
Explore the world of math and science through West School's Math/Science Explorers. Each session meets in our multi-purpose room, 1 morning a week, from 8:00-8:40. Students have the opportunity to explore new math and science concepts by participating in hands-on activities that utilize both the scientific method and a problem-based approach to learning. The concepts and experiments are different from items covered in the regular grade level curriculum. The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club.
This club is designed for fourth grade students and reinforces math concepts taught in the classroom. The goal of the club is to provide students with support so they feel confident and secure in the area of mathematics. The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club.
Sit back and relax as you listen to your favorite books by various authors being read to you. Each session begins at 8:00AM in the Library Learning Center and will begin with a book talk about an award winning author, age-appropriate series, or genre geared to entice the reader to expand his or her horizons. This club is open to third and fourth grade students. With the goal of developing awareness and understanding of the importance of recycling, the club members will participate in a number of projects. These projects tie into the 4th grade study of ecosystems and 3rd grade study of the prairie. The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club. Visit the Recycle Club web site!
Hola! Come and join our Spanish Club! During the fall and spring sessions, West School students have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Spanish language and culture through hands-on activities. The club meets at 8:00AM, 1 day a week, and the activities focus on increasing language skills as well as on promoting an awareness and acceptance of another culture. The Glencoe PTO has generously funded this club.
Student Council meetings take place twice a month at West School at 8:00AM. The meetings discuss a variety of school issues, planning of school spirit days, and organizing fund raisers to benefit organizations in our community and in the Chicagoland Area. Many children have the opportunity to represent their classrooms as representatives of Student Council.
