Summer Explorations Fun!

One hundred forty-seven students. Thirty-six different class offerings. Four weeks. One amazing comeback for Summer Explorations, a popular District 35 program.

With the cancellation of Summer Explorations 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  staff and students alike are thrilled to return this summer. “It has been so amazing to see a mix of ages, interests, and new and previous participants,” remarks Ben Baird, assistant director of pupil services and administrative leader of the Summer Explorations program.

This year’s participants selected up to three one-hour courses each day. More than half of this year’s classes are brand new—including Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead!, Jewelry Making & Design, Vex Robotics, and Wade into Watercolors — complemented by such fan favorites as Make a Messterpiece, Bike & Hike, and Glencoe Ninja Warrior. While the new course offerings and elevated enrollment numbers have generated a great deal of excitement, Baird notes he is most impressed by participants’ energy level. “Students are socializing and collaborating in different ways than during the school year, and you can feel that energy,” he says.
