Friday, February 3, 2012 is School Spirit Day at West: The West School Student Council consists of two students from each classroom at West School. These students are elected in their home rooms to represent their class during Council meetings that are held twice a month. During these meetings, students discuss the various collections, drives, and upcoming themes for our West School Spirit Day. Our last School Spirit Day was acknowledged by the wearing of hats and crazy hair. Council representatives decide on several ideas for School Spirit Day and then conduct elections in their classrooms, collect the tallies, then count the votes at their next council meeting. Second Quarter Progress Reports The second quarter progress reports are available for viewing on Family Access. This report contains the second quarter marks from the general education classroom teacher as well as the first semester marks from gym, art, modern language, and music teachers. Our winter parent/teacher conferences will be held on Friday, February 17. Teachers have sent home notices in the backpacks for your attention. These notices will indicate if a conference is being requested by your child’s teacher. Book Exchange on February 3 Students are encouraged to bring in books that they have already read to exchange for ones they haven’t read. Our annual West School Paperback Book Exchange will begin on Monday, January 30. Students should bring in books during the week and the actual exchange will be on Friday, February 3. Video Announcements The PTO sponsored West School Video Announcements are ready for viewing. These announcements are the product of the West School Video Announcement Club. Third and fourth graders work on the highlights of the West School activities on Friday mornings before school. Award-winning filmmakers Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson will introduce the premier North Shore screening of the award-winning documentary Finding Kind, an exploration of the effects of meanness in girls’ relationships, 7 pm Thursday, February 9, at Central School, Misner Auditorium. The Glencoe League of Women Voters invites area residents to, "Coffee and Conversation" with Dr. Linda Yonke, New Trier High School Superintendent. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 9:45 a.m. in Room 2 of the Glencoe Park District Takiff Center located at 999 Green Bay Road.

The Board of Education has approved the 2012-2013 school year calendar. The following is a one page listing of major events for school year 2012-2013, Calendar Highlights. Please note the two Parent/Teacher Conference Days will be held on November 8th and 9th. Conferences will also be held on the evening of November 8th. There will not be a scheduled conference day in February.
Please mark your calendars and join the following programs offered in our township:

Illinois law requires proof of an eye examination by an optometrist or physician who provides complete eye exams be submitted as a child enters kindergarten or is new to an Illinois school. The exam must be completed within one year prior to your child beginning school. All forms must be turned in by October 15th. Download the EYE EXAM form here.
