Physical Education Update

We completed our basketball unit this week. We focused on dribbling and worked on keeping our heads up and controlling the ball. We used these skills in a game of “Basketball Scrabble”. We also played a West School favorite game of “Bench Ball”. Watch us in action HERE.

Carline & Coffee

We are excited to introduce CARLINE & COFFEE as a monthly opportunity to volunteer and learn more about West School.

Once a month, we will welcome parents to volunteer during student arrival (8:30 AM) and then enter the building for coffee and conversation. Please follow the LINK to volunteer for CARLINE & COFFEE. Please pick ONE slot to allow us to share this experience with many parents.

The agenda for our session will include volunteering followed by coffee and a building tour. Our 2022 CARLINE & COFFEE sessions - February 23, March 16, April 20, May 18. Please call the office with any questions. I look forward to seeing you for CARLINE & COFFEE.

West for the WIN

West for the WIN!

This year West School launched WIN Time. WIN stands for “What I Need”, and it is a designated time for just that! Every student is engaged in 30 minutes per day of WIN Time. During Quarter 1, all staff partnered with classroom teachers to support literacy and social-emotional wellness during WIN Time. Most students stayed in their classrooms to work in small groups with a teacher and individually using choice boards. Last week, we began a revised version of WIN Time. On Thursday and Friday, students move around the building and engage in different class options with West school staff members. These options include Inquiry, Writing, Literacy, and Math. The halls are buzzing with excitement as students enjoy their WIN Time groups. We invite you to partner with us by asking your child questions about their new Thursday & Friday WIN Time group.

West Absence Reporting

If your child will be absent from school, please report the absence with this FORM before 9:15 AM. You will be asked to share the date and reason for the absence. This information will be shared directly with Nurse Balling for attendance and follow-up purposes. In addition to this email, the online form can be found on the front of our West School website and under the Parent Resources tab.

West Reminders

Morning Arrival
Our morning supervision officially begins at 8:30 AM. Please do not arrive before 8:30. If you are in the carline, we kindly ask you to wait until 8:30 to let students out of the car.

Please refrain from walking dogs on school property during school hours. Please be mindful that we have students who suffer from allergies and students who are scared of dogs.

Lunch Labels
Please label the front of lunch bags with your child’s name and their teacher’s name.

Instruction During COVID-19 Quarantine

We want to ensure continuous learning opportunities for our students if they are in COVID-19 quarantine. When students are placed in quarantine due to COVID-19, West school teachers will provide access to instruction using multiple learning opportunities. Students will have access to their school-issued iPad and use Schoology as the platform for engaging in instruction. Teachers will provide a quick daily zoom check-in to keep students on track. Math, literacy, and other daily work can be picked up in the front office. Additional work may include pre-recorded videos and lessons, choice boards, or novel studies.

Welcome to West

It is my pleasure to officially welcome you and your family to West School! I am honored to work with our staff, students, and families to support our growing learners. I look forward to partnering with you in the education of your child.
