Scrubbing to Make a Difference

Third graders from West School recently volunteered at Cradles to Crayons, taking a step towards ending clothing insecurity among children in the greater Chicagoland area. This instills values of compassion and empathy in the young students, shaping them into conscientious members of the community.

Culinary Clay Creations

Mrs. Shadel leads fourth graders in their "Food Memories" ceramic projects. In this task, students sift back in their memories for an important food or drink to use as their subject.

Celebrating Innovation

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Enza Fox, Mrs. Mary Kelly, and Mr. Jeff Melrose, for organizing, Arctic Spark, an event that invited West students to showcase their creativity and innovation, transforming materials such as marbles and marshmallows into extraordinary creations.

INNOVATING FOR THE FUTURE

Mrs. Enza Fox and Mrs. Mary Kelly organized an engaging Hour of Code celebration. Activities included exploring coding apps, hands-on practice with programming and robotics, and an unplugged Lego-building activity, directed by complex coding models These diverse experiences allowed students to explore various aspects of computer science and robotics while still having fun.

The Sounds of Music

During Music Week at West, parents are not only welcomed but also actively participate in learning about the musical concepts taught in class. This event is a shining example of how we strive to enrich our students' experiences in the musical arts.

CONGRATS, CHORUS!

Congratulations to the West School Chorus Club on an outstanding chorus concert. Your hard work, talent, and dedication made us proud. Thank you especially to Ms. Porretta for providing our students with this amazing opportunity. Participating in chorus is one of many opportunities that West School students have to engage in music education and appreciation.

SEL BREAKOUT

Students participated in a breakout focusing on self-awareness and responsible decision-making. Students worked as a team to unlock four locks and earn pieces of their class's Westies in Action poster. It was so much fun!

Celebrating Our Community

In the late 1970’s, the Glencoe Board of Education chose to reorganize the district from four neighborhood schools to three age-centered buildings. This decision was based on the belief that the District is best served by bringing together all students of a grade level.

District 35 educates the whole child to...

…maximize creative and critical thinking skills.
…fully challenge and realize physical, social, and cognitive abilities.
…nurture unique learning styles, interests, strengths, and pace.
…provide a solid foundation for the next phase of education and for learning throughout life.

Celebrating Our Community

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

District 35 views education as experiences best served by coordinated efforts of parents and the school staff.  Parent involvement through generous support of the Glencoe PTO, volunteers in classrooms and ongoing communication with teachers and school personnel are welcomed and encouraged.  Teachers in grade level and/or subject area teams work closely side-by-side in their planning, decision-making, implementation, and assessment.  Together, we nurture our greatest natural resource – our children.

Growing Every Heart and Mind

The District 35 curriculum is broadly based, reflecting an interest in the academic, social, emotional, artistic, and physical development of children. Problem-solving and decision-making are encouraged through the curriculum and informal situations, such as recess or class meetings in the lower grades and integrated activities at the upper levels.
